Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
This is what Yuka looks like after traveling for about 30 hours.  Going to Norway from Tokyo in late July, we had connecting flights in both Copenhagen and Oslo.  Finally arriving in Tromso, we got on the coastal express "Hurtigruten" just after midnight. I believe this is from the coastal village of Risoyhamn, which has approximately 200 people and is situated on the island of Andoya.  Trust me, this information is from the internet so it has to be accurate.  Our boat stopped there for about 30 minutes, and it was an idyllic place to walk around.

Hurtigruten is the name of a costal express that runs from the northern city of Kirkenes (close to Norway's boarder with Russia) to the city of Bergen.  A roundtrip from Kirkenes to Bergen takes 11 days, and is particularly beautiful during summer when passengers can enjoy daylight 24 hours a day. "Hurtigruten" runs every day the entire year, and receives generous subsidies from the oil rich government of Norway.  This picture is probably one of the best shots from the trip.  You do not get to see a sight like this very often.

This and the following pictures are from one of the highlights of the trip, namely the famous Trollfjorden, which located in Raftsundet (Nordland county).  The fjord is about 3 kilometers long and 100 meters wide.  Navigating inside this fjord with a big cruise ship is best left to professionals. The tourists on Hurtigruten went all crazy as we approached Trollfjorden, at least to the extent people on this boat can get nuts.  Prices in Norway are generally high to start with, but taking the Hurtigruten during summer is extremely costly.  As a result, the average Hurtigruten passenger is usually quite wealthy.
Yours truly is not wealthy, you can probably find more successful people living under bridges in New York.  That is, however, not the only characteristic that I do not share with other Hurtigruten passengers. Since taking Hurtigruten as a tourist mainly involves starring at nature all day, you won't find many adventurous young individuals on board.  Instead, the cruise ships tend to resemble big floating retirement homes.
