Norwegian Lawyers Should Rather Sue Their Own Government

VG reports that six Norwegian lawyers have filed a suit in Norway asking that a number of Israeli politicians and military personnel are arrested if they ever come to Norway. The reasoning is that the Jewish individuals named in the law suit ordered the recent attacks on the Arab terrorist organization Hamas.

The six Norwegian lawyers should be able to keep themselves busy if they intend to sue any foreign national that potentially has committed crimes against the vague concept of "international law". In order to relieve themselves of this burden, the lawyers have decided to single out a limited number of Jewish politicians, though their decision obviously has nothing to do with anti-semitism. It is simply a pure coincidence that they have chosen to focus only on Jewish individuals.

With the logic they are using, perhaps the lawyers should also sue their own government for complicity in the killing of civilians in Afghanistan. Norway has had military forces in Afghanistan for quite some time, and Norwegians are certainly indirectly or directly responsible for some of the civilian deaths that have occurred during the last few years.

I am norwegian, and not proud of it. For some reason alot of the stupid people have ended up here, and as you can see many of them are lawyers and sits in the government.

We support all kinds of terrorist organisations and sends them hundreds of millions of dollars to support them. Did you know that?

And why, the normal people in Norway cant give you an answer. You simply have to ask Jonas Gahr Støre which certainly love these fantastic terrorist organisations.

And by the way, The norwegian RED (as in comunism/sosialism) gorvernment (arbeiderpartiet) is not anti semitistic... no not at all... they simply doesnt like jews. There is a big difference there... or isnt there?????

I am so tired of the accusations against Norway and other critics of Israel. Israelis should really make an effort to try so solve this conflict without use of the army. Accusations of antisemetism will only contibute to more criticism when most norwegians merely try to point out what is happening to the people of Palestine. I dont hate jews and i actually think that all people of this world should have the right to live and feel safe.. Israel should be able to aswer to the criticism constructively. We live in the year 2009....This conflict has been going on for far to long. Good luck to the people of Israel. I hope one day you will suceed :-)

I think two of the idiots in question are in this forum in fact.
Klarksen, you need to learn to write basic english language in order to ariculate political and other infantile, unsupported allegations.

Janhoo, Gaza has around 1.4 million people on 360 sq km of land. If you compare the continuous bombing, general killing of mostly civilians, the blockade of medicine and food into Gaza with the ongoing war with Taliban in Afghanistan you are so full of denial and lack insight that any discussion is pointless.

Clearly, examples of International Law being broken can be found in lots of places but it doesn't mean that it therefore is okay to break it everywhere.
The extent of demolition and killings in Gaza is not so very far away from a very large concentration camp and pure terrorism. And yes, there are terrorists in Gaza but compare the numbers and you will see that Israel is pure state funded terrorism and there is little intelligent targeting when the bombs reign over Gaza.

All of this can be said about the state of Israel without a shred of anti-semitic sentiment. It is simply the truth.

You are both ignorant bastards. I am Norwegian as well, however live outside the country.
You draw the parallel between Isreal-Palestine and Norway in Afghanistan. This makes no sence what so ever. First of all, the norwegian soldiers in Afghanistan is UN peace-retaining soldiers, where Isrealis are simply countrymen of Israel. Not to mention that they have obviously not aimed to keep the peace.

The other thing, Hamas is not a terrorist-organization. This is BS you ignorants keep on spreading. Hamas is basically the democraticly elected (non-official) governmental organ in Palestine. There is just an outbrake group who are trying to defend themselves...

Lets not forget that as far as the media was concerned, norwegians who fought the germans during WWII, were also terrorist. So get some damn perspective on it.
And dont try any BS on getting sympathy for being Jews, it really does not matter what religion what people belong to, wrong is wrong and that is that. The Jews even seem not to remember their own tradition (read art. http://mondediplo.com/2008/09/07israel ).

Hamas is recognized as a terrorist organization by Canada, the European Union, Israel, Japan, and the United States. Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamas for details.

Norwegians fighting the Germans during WW2 did not target civilians. Please do not compare Milorg with Hamas.

The blockade of the Gaza Strip is imposed by Egypt and Israel. Humanitarian aid is allowed into Gaza, but there is an economic blockade to weaken the power of Hamas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blockade_of_the_Gaza_Strip#Blockade_agreements).

Humanitarian aid is let through but to such a limited extent that it is provocing.
The economic blockade collectively hurts every civilian Palestinian. Shortages of fuel and electricity even threatens the daily operations in hospitals.

Some people who belong to Hamas are terrorists, you are absolutely right.

Hamas is also a political party and was elected government in Palestine.
Hamas is an abused label that is very subjectively interpreted by the state of Israel and used as a prerogative to bomb and terrorize a whole population. As a response to the terrorism done to Israel. The bombing of schools, police buildings, governmental structures and so on is legitimate in the war against the terrorists within Gaza. Democracy was no longer that important when Israel didn't like the outcome of the elections I guess.

I again urge anyone to look at the death toll to get a better picture of what's actually going on. The numbers speak for themselves. The rockets fired by Hamas terrorists are medieval compared to Israels weaponry and cannot effectively be targeted at anything. They shoot and hope they will inflict as much damage as possible anywhere within Israel.

As long as Israel is expanded way beyond the borders of 1967 there is no basis for peace or a two state solution.

Thank you to the two anonymous posters for putting things straight. I don't hate jews, as a matter of fact I know next to nothing about judaism and I don't really give a f*** whether a person is jewish or not. Like most norwegians today I'm non-religious, whereas the historical european anti-semitism was/is based in the christian belief that jews killed Jesus and the stronghold of the church on european politics throughout the middle ages and up until modern times. Fortunately we have thrown away the suffocating grip of religion in politics and I can only hope the rest of the middle east, including Israel, can one day do the same. It isn't about archaic anti-semitism, arabs are also a semitic people, it's about the fact that Israel is one of very few countries today that illegally occupies territory that is not theirs, that moves its own civilians to said territory, and brutally mistreat of oppress the people rightfully owning it. Gaza is the closest thing one comes to a modern day concentration camp, and one and a half million people - men, women and children - live there and suffer there, under daily occupation and oppression. If Israel continues its policy of occupation and settlement, continues its blatant disregard for international laws and treaties, it's a lost cause. It pushes towards its own undoing and keeps blaming all others for what is in essence its own fault. I don't like state terror, period. To that it makes no difference if the state if jewish, muslim, christian, secular, atheist of whatever.

I want to emphasize that I did not accuse the lawyers of anti-semitism. Quite the opposite, I actually gave them the benefit of the doubt.

However, it does seem very odd that the lawyers have singled out only a small number of Jewish individuals in their law suit. Why not file a suit against some Russians, including Prime Minister Putin, for their actions in Chechnya? Or the Sri Lankan government for its actions against the Tamil minority? The Han Chinese leadership would be an easy target due to its numerous human rights violations and mistreatment of minorities.

The purpose of the blog entry was not to discuss the Israeli-Arab conflict, but rather to ask the question why Israel is being singled out.

The Israel-Palestine conflict and in this case the Israeli state is singled out simply because to many it's at the zenith of a wider conflict between the muslim and christian world. There are alot of conflicts that are probably worse, but that does not have the same symbolic significance.

When you ask why Israel is being singled out the answer lies in alot of the posts in this blog that tries to articulate that really the state of Israel is also a terrorist and in addition an illegal occupier of land. This being said, you can look at the death toll of both sides of the conflict and the numbers speak for themselves. It is so unproportional that you cannot see this as justice or a fair response in any kind of way. Israel is one of the greatest military powers in the world and with that power comes a moral responsibility. If the goal was to stop terrorism and get peace the first alternative should be to withdraw to the borders of 1967 and respect the elected government of Palestine. To call all members of the Hamas political party terrorists, bomb all the palestinian infrastructure killing mostly civilians and silently accept settlers propagating on occupied land certainly isn't.

So the answer to your question is of two parts:
1. The symbolic importance.
2. Because the Israeli state deserves to be singled out and needs to be stopped for the sake of both Palestinians and Jews.

I could draft a response to to this, but it would be a waste of time since I can simply link to the following:

It was Yom Kippur, 2000. The Intifada had just broken out and a huge wave of terror had suddenly descended upon Israel. The media in Europe was twisting the story to brand Israel as a bad guy! Jews in the UK were in shock and felt under attack. A few idealists decided enough was enough.
So there were 4 or 5 of us British university students, kicking ideas around, frustrated and wondering what we could do to help Israel ...
