MILLENNIUM |
| For some reason I ended up celebrating the Millennium in Grimstad, this due to strong parental pressure. It probably was the place I had hoped to avoid the most for the celebrations, in addition to Beijing and Afghanistan, but at least I had the feeling when waking up on New Year's Day that things only could go one way... | ![]() | Just after this picture of my dad, myself and my girlfriend was taken, I tried to burn down the town with the torch I can be seen holding. Needless to say; I entered the Millennium at the police station. |
| January 2, Miho and I went to Madrid, which happens to be the capital of Spain. Our Spanish friends once used to dominate the world, but are now rather known to be a lazy bunch of unemployed people with hairy women. Yet, in addition to being the home of Picasso's "Guernica", the city can also show for other great paintings by Velazquez and other masters. Visiting the Prado Art Museum is a must! Later I had to write a paper on Velazquez's "The Drunkards", check it out if you want. | ![]() | Outside the Prado Art Museum |
| Except from art there is not a tremendous lot to be seen in Madrid, and a city like Barcelona is supposed to be much more beautiful than the capital. Madrid has charm though, this even though people are unable to speak anything but Spanish and even insist on babbling on in their own language when being asked something in English (wow; that was a long sentence) | ![]() | A picture of Miho, Jan and something famous in Madrid |
| The old city of Toledo | ![]() | Toledo is a beautiful and romantic city a couple of hours away from Madrid. El Greco and other famous artists spent lots of time there, and so did we. But to conclude; Even when considering the fairly bad food, hairy women and people who don't speak English, Spain is a much better place to spend a vacation than Norway ever will be. And it's cheaper too. |
