Trip
to Izu-Hanto!
- October 13-14 (2002), Shizuoka
Izu-hanto is situated eighty kilometers
south-west of Tokyo, and is one of Japan's most popular tourist
attractions.
The Izu-hanto is actually a peninsula, and
the rugged coastline is famous for its beauty. In addition, there
are many hot springs around.
These three pictures were taken from a
guesthouse in Ito, one of the peninsula's many hot spring resorts.
On the way down from the guesthouse, we
walked past some nice bamboo trees.
Ito actually used to be popular among
honeymooners, but that was basically before other options became
available.
From Ito, we took a boat to Hatsushima
Island. It is just a trip of 30 minutes or so, and I was amazed to
see flying fish on the way out.
Unfortunately, I was not able to take a
picture of the fish. They fly about 100 meters or so before dropping
back into the ocean. This is a view from Hatsushima.
The Japanese will consider you an idiot if
you ask for hamburgers while at Hatsushima. As the island is famous
for fish, that is what you'll eat.
A picture from Hatsushima bay, where a bunch
of small restaurants serve all kinds of sea food. If something has
been in the sea, the Japanese will eat it.
This picture is kind of neat, I think.
The waves were rather big, so a swim did not seem very tempting.
